Home Recollection for College of Medicine Year 2 AY 2016-2017

CELAM has prepared this “home recollection” as a substitute to the missed scheduled recollection. It is our hope that the student/s doing this requirement will enter into the spirit of prayer and reflection. Let this remind the student of one’s relationship with God and His invitation to draw close to Him.

Materials needed: Bible, notebook for journaling  (i.e.  grade school writing notebook )

Learn how to Meditate. Quiet yourself for a few moments. Dispose your mind and spirit to your time of prayer.

Opening Prayer-  Come Holy Spirit I need you
Come Holy Spirit I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own special way

Br. Camillus Chavez FSC is a De la Salle brother based in St. Mary’s University in California who teaches about meditation. He has visited USLS twice in the last 5 years to share about the importance of meditation.

  2. I.Meditate with Brother Camillus Chavez FSC
    a. i was relaxed deeply and completely. the tensions where removed and it just felt so light.
    b. relax your body first and do this on a regular basis and in a place and time where i am unlikely to be interrupted. then find a posture that i am comfortable with, hands on the lap and feet flat on the ground when sitting and when lying down, there`s a tendency to fall a sleep but sometimes this is what our body needs, we may also follow meditations recordings or soothing sounds.
    c. yes they helped me medidate and pray. i learned how to relaxed my self and let all the tensions go and be in God`s hands for a minute.
    d. dear Lord, thank you for this life and the blessings you have given me. thank you for giving me my family and friends that help me become a better person, wiser, stronger, and true. thank you for giving me that chance to grow and to know my self deeply.
Lord, as i go on, please help me maintain my equilibrium. Lord, let no one let me feel down anymore. let me be an instrument of your love and compassion. and let love reign in me not jealousy and hatred. give a kind and generous heart too. help me enlighten your goodness to others. Lord, thank you for everything. you are the center of my life. you are the VIP. your are the one that gives me strength and hope that nothing bad will happen to me as long as you are there and that no problems that i can`t conquer as long as you are there. Lord, thank you. please remain in me forever, Amen.

  3. II. identity of a LaSallian docotor
    wrist: Ira Mikkaella D. Genobis
thumb: God - he is the person i can always depend on, because even though i don`t see him or touch him, i know he surrounds me.
index: my mother - this person is someone would always treasure. she shares to me her wisdom and experiences to guide me to my everyday life
middle: sisters in the dorm, celam personnel, our church - we have rosaries every night, they give talks for uplifting our spirit, the celam give recollections which gives us the time to recollect and talk to God, to pause for a while and take time with God, and then our church through going to mass on sundays and vounteering as a cantor or lector.
ring: my mother - i share my feelings to her, the things that bothers me, my plans in life. i share to her about everything.
pinky: Jared, less fortunate people who strives to be succesful - Jared is my boyfriend and i am inspired with how he has grown to become very responsible of himself, being wise in his decisions, how he had endured sacrifices to successfully achieve his dreams and that`s where he is right now. for the less fortunate people, every time i see them, it makes my feet remain on the ground, to be down-to-earth kind of person, to live simply, and to strive to become better for my future.

on my palm: these persons have molded me into a compassionate, God-fearing, peace-loving, and determined person.

    2. it was when i was flanking on 2 subjects and it is already endterms and i can`t pull up my grades on these two. i talked to my bestfriends from others medschools and my mother and God. and the y were thre to lift me up, to hang on and never give and God made me feel like i was not alone. and then i asked him that id fail in one of these subjects, i hope na ang indi lang ang mahal nga tuition and he answered my prayers. id have be an irregular student now but then i see it as an opportunity that i shouldn`t waste anymore, it`s a time for me to catch up, to review everything and advance a little bit. i hope that h will be with me as i do these things and bless me. someday, i will become the greatest doctor.

compassion, for me it`s that having the heart to help others.
as i started thinking my experience of compassion, i can`t think of major thing that i`ve done to be compassionate because it`s me that needs a lot of compassion from other. haha for this school year, a lot of emotional let down happened to me that i became too weak to handle and then i can`t function normally anymore, i can`t focus that`s why i flanked on some of my subjects but i`ll just tell on the compassion i saw in 1 of my classmate when 11 of us needs to get a removal exam. he woke up early everyday to review us comprehensively, he gave us tests he shared his knowledge and skill i studying and answering the exams. i saw compassion in there becaue he hang on for us, he helped us get through it and then i passed the exam. they say it`s history-made. right now, im building my self back and it`s time for me to payback compassion to other people. some of the practical things i can do to have a compassionate heart is to never be hesistant when someone needs me, pull out all the clothes i dont wear anymore and give it to less fortunate ones (with the fact that clothes are my "vice"), help my mother in the household chores, let the dogs eat and bathe them even if i am too lazy to do those things, etc.

III. Reflection on one Mass for Catholics, or service for other religions.

mathew 13: 24-43 parable of the weeds

there will be a lot in this material world that could so a weed or evil in our hearts, it could be the influence of other people, certain persons that we are with everyday, the things we see, the things we do but during the harvest days comes or the end of age, it will be the goods ones that will be picked up and the weeds will be burned. so, while we have time, shake of those evil influences and things that spare us from being saved.
